Eleventh-hour US speaker nominee clinches house gavel, ending weeks of congress turmoil

The US House of Representatives has elected a speaker after over three weeks searching, with more than nine nominees and three failed floor votes.

With the republicans' slim majority in the house, the nominee could only afford to lose four votes from their own side.

It was Representative Mike Johnson who finally cleared this hurdle, receiving unanimous support from his party.
