Thousands in Los Angeles sleeping rough in their vehicles facing city crackdown

Homelessness in the US city of Los Angeles is on the rise, up 9 per cent year-on-year.

This month, its council voted to turn a car park into a 33-unit homeless shelter.

But the problem is still described as "immense", with 14 thousand people sleeping in their vans and cars.
